Hi there, I’m Elise, a photographer and graphic designer. I’m a Capricorn that benefits from mind-maps and lists. I subscribe to traveling, hiking, and horror movies.

I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications Media with a concentration in Photography in 2012 from Fitchburg State University. At FSU I studied under Peter Laytin and completed an internship with Michael Indresano Photography in Boston, MA. Because one degree wasn’t good enough, I went back to school in 2016. I completed my second Bachelor’s Degree in Studio Art with a concentration in Graphic Design in 2018 at Bridgewater State University.

As a photographer, my personal work focuses on nature and the world around us. I love spending time outside, I feel free, most like myself and most relaxed when I’m hiking, breathing in the fresh air. If my photographs bring even the slightest joy or wave of relief to anyone who doesn’t have a state forest or national park near by, I would consider that a win. My inspiration comes from famous photographers Ansel Adams (but, I mean, let’s be honest — who isn’t awe struck by his landscapes), Robert Frank (who gave me the strength to drive across country and photograph it), Aaron Siskind (who’s up-close-what-is-it photographs inspire me in nature), Paul Strand (who’s portraits hop off the page), and Diane Arbus (who’s images are unique and inspires me to be unabashedly myself).

However, when it comes to my freelance and work-for-hire photography, I’m more attracted to the studio life of product photography. (Oops, my Capricorn is showing). When it comes to product photography, I’m in a controlled setting. I control the camera, the lighting, the props, and the set up of the shoot. Sure there are guidelines, but like I said before I love lists. It’s fun for me to work within restrictions, it’s like problem solving with a creative tinge. Working in a studio is fun and fast paced.

And finally as a designer, I’m a little more like product photographer Elise. I enjoy laying out structure, and keeping it simple. I subscribe to Swiss Design. I love to do research for my work, gathering all the information and getting it across to my viewers in a minimalistic way, where the information is easy to digest and pleasing to look at.
